Football teams are always in search of a quality left tackle, most times they protect the blind side of the quarterback. Pitt offensive line coach John Peterson has a quality one this year in Adam Bisnowaty but needs one for the future. They have their eyes on a possible replacement.
Andrew Stueber (6-6, 305) is an 2017 offensive tackle from Darien, Connecticut and holds an impressive list of offers. Schools like Boston College, Maryland, North Carolina, Penn State, Rutgers, Duke, Vanderbilt, Northwestern and Tennessee have extended him an offer.
Stueber is a player that Pitt would like to get and Peterson and Tim Salem have been putting the time in recruiting him and developing a relationship which is always important.”
“The relationship with the Pitt coaches has grown a lot since first talking with Coach Salem on the phone. I’ve also had great talks with Coach Peterson. It’s been really great getting to know them”, said Stueber. The constant communication has been great. I think they’re doing a great job not pressuring me but still letting me know how important I am to them.”
In fact, one of the Pitt coaches told Stueber that “we need you”, which made him feel pretty good.
“It’s always nice to hear someone say something like that and it keeps you motivated to continue getting better. Also, it lets me know how much they would value me as a player.
Obviously, Pitt isn’t the only school recruiting Stueber, who tells me that Penn State, Maryland, North Carolina, Duke and Tennessee are the schools he hears from most.
Stueber is a 3-sport athlete (track and basketball) so it’s hard for him to have time to make recruiting visits. However, he tells me that he wants to start making trips to some of the schools that have offered him, like Pitt. He’s hoping to get out on the road at the start of June.
Playing 3 sports means Stueber isn’t just a big lineman, he’s also an athlete. I asked him to describe himself as a lineman and his strengths.
“I think some of my strengths are that I bend well, I have good footwork and I’m flexible. I think that helps me to compete and my flexibility helps to prevent injuries”, said Stueber.

So when can we expect a decision from this talented Connecticut lineman?
“I’m still really open to all schools but I’m thinking about narrowing down my list so I can narrow my focus. I’ll narrow it down by next week and let everyone know.”
