Aliquippa’s Raines Visits Pitt

Aliquippa High School has always been a successful pipeline to the Pitt football program.   In February,  Pitt landed Aliquippa 4-star running back/linebacker Kaezon Pugh.

A future Aliquippa star player paid a visit to the Pitt Panthers yesterday.

Kwantel Raines (6-3, 195) is a 2018 athlete that’s starting to get plenty of interest from Power 5 schools.  Raines just picked up an offer last week from West Virginia and is getting recruited by Pitt and Penn State.

Yesterday, Raines stopped by Heinz Field as Pat Narduzzi and Pitt held their third practice of the spring.

“My visit to Pitt was great and I saw plenty of things that I liked.  I really like how the coaches coach the players and how much they were into the practice.   I also liked how I knew a lot of the players that were there and a lot that will be there this fall”, said Raines.

“When I first came out on the field to talk to the coaches, I spoke with Coach Narduzzi.   I like how enthusiastic he was with me.”

Raines tells me that for now  Pitt is just recruiting him as an athlete.   With his size (6-3) and athletic ability, Raines could play numerous positions on the field.

“Whichever position I could get on the field is what position I want to play”,  said Raines. “I’m more of like a general on the field and my strengths are that I can cover a slot receiver then come up and make a tackle on big running backs.”

To this point, Pitt hasn’t officially offered the 2018 prospect but if they do, it would be special for Raines.

“It would mean a lot to get an offer from Pitt because that’s my hometown school”, said Raines. If that offer comes, Raines tells me that Pitt would definitely be a top contender for him.

All the best to Kwantel Raines and he’s definitely someone we’ll continue to follow.
