“It’s hard not to cry when you hear such a giant school in such a huge conference offers you as just a sophomore.”
That was the reaction of Wayne High School defensive end Alex Reigelsperger (6-4, 222) after learning from his coach that Pitt’s John Peterson offered him a scholarship.
“Coach Peterson is the one who offered me, that’s my dude! I was in the middle of telling him about my recent offers and visits , and in the middle of me talking he kind of just started to tell me about how he showed my film to everyone and then told me congrats and told me I had an offer! It’s hard not to cry when you hear such a giant school in such a huge conference offers you as just a sophomore. I was extremly surprised and like I said it a HUGE blessing and honor, I’m extremly excited about it”, said Reigelsperger.
Reigelsperger now holds offers from University of Miami Ohio, Western Michigan, Pitt, Kentucky, Purdue, Cincinnati (Indiana could be close to offering). Considering he’s only a sophomore, Reigelsperger is excited with all the attention.
” Being a sophomore and having offers from Big 10, SEC, MAC and now ACC is really something special”, said Reigelsperger. “But I’m handling it ok, I am still not getting paid for what I love to do, which is football, so I’m still working hard each and everyday , more offers just causes harder work to be honest.”
Reigelsperger tells me that Pitt is recruiting him as a DE/LB/TE. Coach Peterson believes he can add weight and stay at defensive end, can be taught to play linebacker.
“I think my strong suit and what I’m blessed with most is my speed. I try to come off the edge real fast and it works alot, so I think my strong suit is my speed and hands”, said Reigelsperger.

The fact that Reigelsperger lives (Huber Heights, Ohio) so close to Pittsburgh is going to give him a chance to really check out Pitt.
“Being a bit closer to Pitt is really nice, means not too long of a drive for a visit or to make it for a game or practice so that’s great. Any offer is a great offer, but this one is truly special”, said Reigelsperger. “I will 100% be visiting there. No doubt about it. I will make it a mission to get up there. I’ll visit Pitt in the summer, I’m sure for a practice and I’m sure for a game. I’ve never been there but from what I’ve seen and heard its special, and I can’t wait to get up there, so I will FOR SURE make it there and can’t wait for it.”
