Judson Making Visit To Pitt

Recruiting a player is a skill.  Most of the successful college coaches are good at it.   One thing we’re finding out about Pat Narduzzi and his assistants is that recruiting is something they’re very good at.

The latest example of that is 4-star athlete Bruce Judson.   It’s not easy to get heavily recruited kids to make a visit to your campus, it’s even harder to get them to visit by plane to your school. But that’s what Judson has decided to do.

Judson (5-9, 185) is from Cocoa, Florida and it’s not an exaggeration to say he’s one of the most highly recruited players in the country.   Judson is ranked by Rivals as the #4 overall athlete in the country and has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida St, Miami of Fla and Ohio State.  The Florida native was previously committed to Ohio State but changed his mind and is wide open.

This evening, I had a chance to talk with Judson about his future and his decision to visit Pitt.  He started off by telling me that he’s arriving in Pittsburgh Thursday morning and staying until Sunday. The Pitt coaches will have plenty of time to build upon the positive impression they’ve already formed with him.

I started off asking Judson the main reason he decided to mark the trip from Florida to Pittsburgh.

“It was the whole coaching staff at Pitt.  They just kept contacting me and staying in touch on Twitter”, said Judson.  “They’ve recruited me just the right way.   Always staying in touch at the same time not pressuring me too much.”

I asked him what’s been Pitt’s recruiting pitch to try and get him?

“I talked with Coach Narduzzi today and he said they we need a difference maker like you”, said Judson. “He believes that I can come in and be a 4-year starter.   Believes that I can come in to the program and be a legacy player.   Both of those are really important to me.”

What that does is speak of the talent level that Judson possess.  Unlike at some other programs, Judson sees Pitt as a place that he can make an impact from Day One.

An athlete with his skill set can play multiple positions in college, what is Pitt recruiting him as?

“Coach Narduzzi was talking about running back but I’m open to anything that will get me on the field.  He said that all of the position coaches at Pitt are trying to get me”, said Judson.

Judson also said another reason for visiting Pitt is it’ll give him the opportunity to experience something different during the recruiting process. Instead of going to a school close to his home in Florida, he’ll be able to get on a plane to check out a school and what it has to offer.

When Judson arrives, he’ll get to see a familiar face, his former HS teammate at Cocoa High School,  Pitt sophomore DE James Folston.  The two are very good friends and Judson is looking forward to catching  up with Folston and to hear what he’s says about Pitt.

It remains to be seen how serious Judson considers Pitt, but Narduzzi and his staff took the first step of getting this future star to come to Pittsburgh.
