Just wanted to update you on the recruitment of North Allegheny TE Griffin Sestili.
Back in November, we profiled Sestili and told you he might be an under the radar recruit in the WPIAL’s Class of 2017. A couple of days ago, Sestili picked up an offer while making a visit to an in-state college.
Matt Rhule and Temple were the latest to offer the local 3-star tight end and we talked to Sestili about the offer.
“Surprised, extremely excited and appreciative. I’ve been communicating with them for awhile. I’m thankful and humbled with any offer but with Temple being in-state and how strong a program Coach Rhule has created, I was speechless. They were a Top 20 team last year and after spending time there, I think even bigger things are on the horizon”, said Sestili.
So what was the Temple visit like and describe Temple head coach Matt Rhule.
“It was a great all-around visit. My dad usually takes me but couldn’t get off work so mom and I made the trip. As soon as we got there, Coach Rhule and the other coaches came over to introduce themselves and spend time”, said Sestili. “From there, they took me on the field to experience practice. It was very upbeat and energetic. A really cool thing was when they had breaks in practice, players would come up and introduce themselves and welcome me. They make you feel like part of the family from the start. No doubt, the people are what stands out at Temple.”
What about their much talked about young head coach Matt Rhule?
“The way he interacts with the players and works from drill to drill was great. He’s high-energy, organized and upbeat. All the players seem to respond to him and really love having him as their coach”, said Sestili.
In fact it was Rhule who gave the good news to Sestili at the end of his visit.
“We were about to head home and were waiting to say goodbye and to thank him. He came in and said, “Griff I have 2 things for you before you leave. 1) You are a hell of a football player and 2) I like your mom and you have an offer to play football at Temple! I couldn’t stop smiling. I just looked at my mom, I actually think she was holding back tears, but it was really special to experience that with her after everything she does for me”, said Sestili.
Along with Temple, Sestili also has offers from Virginia, UTEP, Eastern Kentucky, Army and Duquesne. He’s also getting interest from Duke, Wake Forest, UConn, Boston College, Syracuse, Air Force, William & Mary and Central Florida.
“The process is still early and I’m thankful for all the opportunities. ”
